hi! i'm queen 👾

i'm a software engineer

a former venture capital tax accountant trading one stack of returns for another 💻

Who am I?

How did I get here?

As the oldest child and the first in my family to be born in America, I felt pressured growing up to not only fulfill the path that was chosen for me, but to also take up the mantle of provider for my siblings. Years later, my siblings have all graduated, and I finally feel free to pursue a career that I want.

Over the majority of the past decade, I had a successful career in financial services, providing tax work for venture capital clients at a Big 4 Accounting Firm. While at my job, my role expanded to creating standardized workflows, dashboards, and other automations for my teams and engagements. I found that I very much preferred the logical creativity that went into these digital transformation tools, and veered to software engineering for a greater sense of fulfillment.

It's been nerve-wracking, but I took the jump to switch careers and plunged head-first into a fast-paced coding immersive to develop the skills needed for full-stack web development.

I still want to be able to support my family. But I know that with the foundational knowledge I've taken from my immersive and previous experience in change management, I can continue to learn and grow in my new ventures :)

Reviews from a previous life

“[Queen] served as the foundation to [our] engagement's digital revolution this year. [She] supported nearly every initiative from a tech perspective and contributed to consistent and efficient application of technology. [Her] automation efforts saved the team 2,000+ hours in the spring alone.” – PwC Director

“[Queen] sets aside time to help me grow technically and professionally all while juggling tons of other things on [her] plate. [Her] high expectations for work quality pushed me to deliver my best work, and I felt comfortable coming to [Queen] for help when needed.” – PwC Associate

Just for fun!

⌨️ I love to build keyboards and modify the firmware using QMK, an open source firmware for AVR and ARM. I'm currently working on a handwired 55% layout keyboard, with a wood case I designed cut by Ponoko, and steel plate cut by a furniture part seller in Nevada. Hardware still in process, as I need to wire the rotary encoder and 3D print a fix for the plate.

🏏 Pickleball! See me on the courts around San Jose, but don't expect too much, I am a low 3.0 skill ranking.
